Would making a media server work for me?

Hi There,

I have just put in a cat5e network in my parents house for a home network, there are ports by all the tvs in lounge etc and bedrooms. There is a home theater system also connected to the network.

My question is would a media server with software such as plex be suitable for sharing all of the media around the network, any better software or better idea than server, or different plan all together. really looking for inspiration here haha!

  1. chances are, if everything is DLNA, you wouldn't need special software. you can get DLNA NAS appliances, which can be just as powerful as a home/media server.

    check out http://www.synology.com/dsm/dsm_for_home.php

they look quite capable. not the cheapest solution, but a start.
