Nice and simple I've been building rigs for 3 years. This past year I've been out of date on hardware. I'm looking to play next gen games even if its on medium graphics. I need a new monitor also, I've had this one since 08. I don't need a SSD, or anything outrageous, just as a gaming workstation.
What I have
-Operating System
-Case
-dvd/cd drive
What I need
-Pretty much everything else
-And a decent quality monitor.
Thanks in advance.

What sort of memory did you old system have? If it's DDR3, you could reuse it.
What sort of PSU? That might be reusable as well.

For the CPU, Haswell is the newest microarchitecture available. The least expensive Haswell mobo/cpu combo is going to cost $270. No Haswell i3 processor has been released yet, so if you can wait, it may be worth waiting to see what the i3 looks like.
