Hello, right i need some insight in upgrading my card.....currently have a EVGA GTX550ti 2Gb, now before everyone starts arguing Nividia vs AMD, i am going for Nividia cards.....currently looking at the GTX670, GTX680 and the GTX770 if i feel i can stretch to it, i currently use my pc for occasional gaming (only single player atm, plus ones i can mod), but use it for 3D work, UDK etc, so i was thinking maybe the power and extra cuda cores on the 680 and 770 may be beneficial, currently hooked up to 37inch plasma @ 720p native (i.e desktop etc, and Sims 3) 1080p on other games, so what one may be best for my needs, btw will also be getting next gen games, GTA5, Watchdogs etc! BTW im in the UK, so some brands not available here!

The 770 is equal or better than the 680. If your looking at a 680, get the 770, its £50 cheaper.

I don't think the GTX680 is worthy of consideration, with the faster 770 available.
Be sure your PSU is up to the task. You will want at least 550W for one of these high-end cards, more likely a little more.
If money is an issue, take a look at the Graphics Card hierarchy chart; you'll see that you don't need to go all the way up to a GTX770 to be much better than your 550Ti. It might be worth waiting for some of the other 700-series cards, but a GTX660Ti would be a pretty hefty boost from what you have now, and will run on a solid 500W PSU.

sorry forgot to put down my psu got a corsair hx 850w, money not an issue just cant really go above the 770 price tag, but can see wht ppl are saying about the 680 not worth considering!

In my mind the GTX 770 is the best option.

The GTX 670 is $350-$400
The GTX 770 is $400-$420
The GTX 680 is $420-$530

And the 770 is the fastest. At this point the GTX 670 and GTX 680 are pointless options in my mind. Unless someone already has one and needs a second for SLI. For the guy looking to buy a new card at this point the GTX 770 trumps both 670 and 680. It's too close in price to the 670. And cheaper than and faster than the 680.

I completely agree on the recommendation above for the EVGA GTX 770 with the ACX cooler.

If money is a non-issue, and your PSU is good, then I agree that the GTX770 is the way to go. I am rather impressed by the Gigabyte Windforce3 cooler on my HD7970, so I probably get Gigabyte's 770 with that cooler.

The GTX 770 is clearly the best option of that group. It's has quite significantly the highest performance level while sitting right in between the 670 and 680 in terms of price.

The only other consideration I would throw into the mix is to perhaps wait until June 25th when the GTX 760 is released. It should outperform a GTX 670 for about $300. It may also have an impact on the pricing of the other cards.

If you put in a GTX 770 the only thing you can use the GTX 550Ti for would be PhysX. Certain game titles use PhysX. So you'd only have performance gains with those specific games. And you'd have to make sure you designate the second card as the dedicated PhysX processor in the nVidia Control Panel.

For the UK. WAE+ and dinopc are decent prices, but dont garuntee which maker you get. Otherwise amazon and Novatech are ok pricing, but you can pick which maker and cooler i.e if you order the MSI twin frozr OC thats what your going to get.

What about the CPU? Pairing a ragingly fast GPU with a slow CPU is just throwing money away.
Check with your software vendor/s to see if what you are using will benefit from Cuda acceleration, support varies according to package and release version.
Top of the pile is obviously the GTX770, but the GTX670 is also a powerful gaming card, and significantly cheaper.

The GTX 670 is about 10% slower (not much really), but at that point you'd kick yourself to get one only to find out next week that the GTX 760 outperforms it for less money.

@ jdsb52: Sounds like a sensible plan, but it'll take a few weeks for prices to realign.
Good idea to use the 550 as a PhysX card BTW-if you want to do so.

Those are not GPU-accelerated PhysX games. Make sure you actually play those types of games before you bother with a dedicated PhysX card. Here's a list:

To quote the toms link

One thing to note, though, is that the screenshot doesn't indicate specifically that this is the GTX 760. For all we know, the title of the forum post might be wrong, and this screenshot might be that of, say, a GTX 750. We won't know until later.

Dont get hasty :p  patience young grasshopper.

Since you use your PC for 3D work and not just gaming, make sure the reduced number-crunching capacity of the GTX760 won't hurt you. For paid work, it seems to me that a GTX770 is easily justified.

Not a bad alternative to get near GTX 770 performance and beat out the 760 handily. Yet save some dough. Assuming you're not opposed to AMD.

The OP started out he was considering nVidia-only. I suspect this has to do with non-gaming applications, but in any case means that suggesting an AMD card is not relevant.
