ok so i was going to go with 2133mhz ram but it a little over budget and should i just go with 1600mhz to save some money
i got a intel i7 4770k
radeon 7970
MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate Intel Z87 Chipset DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ Military Class 4, OC Genie II

Sounds like a good plan. :) RAM speed is more effective on memory-sensitive applications, which there are not many of. Mostly heavy graphical applications. That does not include games. Even in gaming, you gain only a few fps between a 2133 and 1600.

What CPU and motherboard are you using? Will you be using integrated graphics if so then faster the RAM the better. If this is your typical gaming Intel CPU then 1600mhz is fine in fact tests show about 2 FPS variance in games between the two.

Something like this for 8GB. Whatever you do dont buy memory with gimmicky tall heasinks to get in way of large CPU heatsinks.

When asking for help you can help yourself by posting your PC specs so we can answer properly.

I think you haven't noticed but he has mentioned his PC specs. No offense intended.

Yes and you try and quantify by pointing at individual bench marks you seen read about which don't equate to real world scenarios, unless of course using a system strictly for gaming (and most gamers I build for also want higher freqs) or sitting around doing e-mail, close that Open word, close that, etc .... if multi-tasking, using memory centric apps, large data sets - yes it can be beneficial....I've even offered real world blind testing methods where people chose faster DRAM 85% of the time....what real world testing have you done, I mean other than benchmarks

I've got grandma I see with multiple apps open and multiple browser windows, you walk in and they are doing nothing yet you watch the HD LED blinking on and off as the system is being forced to constantly write and then read off the page file.....and thank you, where you say large data sets, never really saw that from you till I started posting, and I generally always mention memory sensitive, large data sets, and often even get into video, photos (all to common to home users), and more so when you get into 'professional' type apps CAD/GIS/etc.....Also all the pofessionals I have as clients all do the same with their home system(s)....

Also need to look at market, (and even these forums which are primarily enthusiasts), if they go out and buy a K model CPU, how many do you think really want entry level - which is what 1600 is....the number of available sets of DRAM out there over and above 1600 is now almost 75% the number of sets in 1600 and growing rapidly, 6 months ago is about 42% over and to be honest if AMD wasn't in the mix I imagine it would be higher, AMD is effectively limited to 1866 in CPUs, (the APUs like faster DRAM).

I know nothing about you, if you are a builder/consultant or what, but in the event you are, I'm guessing our clienteles are far different, most all of mine have a fairly respectable level of PC knowledge and want to learn more, they ask introspective questions and generally understand what we are talking about, those that don't (for the most part) want to learn
