Hello. I am looking to build a dedicated PC for laboratory work. I am in an academic lab so keeping costs down is important. The primary task will be doing large scale database searches.
The primary recommended specs for listed by the software vendor is:
2.4 GHz Xeon 6 core processor
24 GB RAM
And a GPU/CPU capable of supporting a standard resolution monitor.
I was wondering if any of you had experience in this area and whether an i5 or i7 would be comparable and whether I can get away with less RAM (maybe 8-16?)
Thanks and looking forward to hearing from ya'll.
