Still haven't decided on the motherboard but need help buying the ram. My current rig has some dominator 2000 ram (8gb) which was the best at the time when I built the i7 920, but was told it's not good for 4770k. The last week or so I started researching things for my new rig and I don't understand when some motherboards state that max allowed frequency of 1600 (oc). Seems low to me but like I said I didn't follow any hardware news or sites for 3 years so I know nothing. I am planning on getting a 2x8gb with this rig. Can you guys tell me which ram specifically to buy so that it coincides perfectly with the 4770k and overclocking to possibly 4.5ghz or more? Thank you

You can't decide on the ram until you decide on the motherboard.
Then, go to a ram vendor's web site and access their configurator. Enter your motherboard model..etc, and you will get a list of supported ram. Do not chase ram much faster than 1600 or 1866.
1. It makes very little difference in actual app performance or fps. Think 2%.
2. Faster ram puts more load on the cpu which will reduce the maximum clock rate that you can get.

You will want a Z87 based motherboard which will support most 1.5v ram.

I'm not worried about custom water cooling as I've had a one for 6 years now. Planning on using my current setup with the new rig. Currently have gtx 360, mcp pump, heatkiller 3.0 and 6 scythe gentle typhoons ac15's, with 6 other fans in the case (yates, ect) (already bought kit from 1366 to 1055 socket for the 4770k). Thanks didn't know about the ram website thing.

I might buy one of these motherboards:

Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H
ASRock Z87 Extreme6
Maximus vi hero
