I am way behind the times, and finally come to realize I can't really salvage anything from my last rig at this point. It has been a week of reading and reading to catch up on new components, but still not sure what i'm doing or if i'm doing it right.

Here's what I have so far, but not dead set on anything probably other than the i5:

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: ASAP

Budget Range: Would like to keep it around $1k USD

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, MS Office, Media

Are you buying a monitor: No (currently using SAMSUNG 22" 1680 x 1050 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001268)

Parts to Upgrade: Everything

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg / amazon

Location: FL, USA

Parts Preferences: See below for list I have hobbled together

Overclocking: realistically, no

SLI or Crossfire: doubtful

Your Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050

Additional Comments: NO need for looks, quiet would be a plus but durability and performance is paramount.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: last build isn't working and won't benefit from any more upgrading.

From the list below, what am I doing right, what can be done better, and what might I be just wasting money on if I'm not going to be overclocking or playing the newest craziest game out there. I'm old and content watching movies and playing STALKER and CoD4. I like good single player FPS games, not terribly into getting the most current multiplayer games.

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk

Cougar Solution (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

SeaSonic M12II 650W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

Thanks!

Your list is reasonable.
You will want to add some ram too.
Ram is cheap, I might go with 16gb.

I can't help but think that for a new build, haswell and a Z87 based motherboard might be better, particularly if you will not be overclocking. Ditto on the graphics card. The newer cards are more efficient and run quieter and cooler. Look at a GTX7xx card.

I like quiet. You might want to read this article about silent cases: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article75-page1.html
In particular, the Silverstone TJ08-E M-ATX size.

the card i have selected was because of a review I read on this site. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-670-review,3200.html

Sorry for me asking, but why do you suggest going up in card when I already think it's one of the most if not the most robust/higher quality items on my list?

Well if the other 7xx cards are anything to go by, the 760 will most likely out perform the 670 and will most likely be cheaper.

The 670 is a great card but for the same price or a little bit more (depending on which brands/model you are looking at), you'd get a way better card. For instance, the GTX 680 costs more than the GTX 770 and is out performed by the 770.

So basically, you could be paying more for an older card that doesn't perform as well as a cheaper newer card.
