I would like to know which processor I should get for gaming and light CAD work. I haven't heard great things about Haswell but it is more current. And the 3770K is a great CPU but is somewhat going to start to become dated. Help me please.

either one will be overkill for gaming or CAD...the videocard will matter more for both of those. If money isn't an issue get the Haswell...but it will cost more as will the motherboard.

The Haswell is newer and a little faster, I'd go for it particularly for CAD, though if budget plays in the 3770K is plenty sufficient for light CAD, I've got some clients running AutoCAD and like based GIS apps and then don't see a real need to upgrade, both are workhorses

what resolution is your monitor? are you looking at a gaming videocard or CAD card? At work I have several CAD machines that are still on i7-2600 CPU's and they aren't taxed. But we're using Quattro K5000 videocards for CAD.

Sweet, those are great cards, have used them in some CAD/GIS builds, but at about $1,850.00 a bit on the high side for any but the higher end CAD users, for a combo gaming and some CAD I'd go with a more mainstream GPS, if it fits in the budget I like the 660TI s as a starting point to work from

oh, I agree...if I had to pay for them I would put in much cheaper videocards...and I do. some people have the money...some just like to talk. just trying to figure out where the OP falls...and knowing what resolution...what games...how much CAD makes the decision easier.
