Specs:
GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3
Intel i7 2600k
BFG Gtx 275 (OLD)
Asus GTX 660 (NEW)
2x4gb 1333 Ripjaw RAM
750W PSU
Antec Three Hundred case

Recently I bought and installed the Asus gtx 660, (before I removed the old card everything worked) up until I powered down and removed my 275 and installed the 660 I was not able to boot back up, no posting, no video, no beeps. When trying to boot, fans from the case, cpu and psu were spinning but on the 660 fans were not (which is odd because the green light near the power connector turns on when PC is powered on) but when placing the 275 back in, fans from the 275 on the second boot were spinning - still no post.. Could this be a motherboard issue, has it finally gave up? I think there are known issues with this mobo and up until this point (almost 1.5 year) it may have given up?

Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

A GTX660 will have no issues running a z68 chipset board. So you had the same issue happen again when you placed in your older card. I have a question in regards to your power supply you really didn't list the model number and the manufacture of the unit would you by chance know that or be able to find it out. I would check all your connections and make sure they are all secure.

Oops, I'm sorry the manufacturer of the power supply is Antec Earthwatt (green) 750w

I've also did some troubleshooting such as attempting to boot with 1 RAM stick and swapping positions but still no dice.

This is where a motherboard with a LED Debug comes in use :p I almost feel like there may be a motherboard issue have you tried other pci express slots on the boot up. It's also possible there may be an issue with the power supply as well its hard to say. The one constant is your computer won't turn on that much we know. My gut says power supply since I have had power supply issues that have resolved issues like this in the past but also very well could be motherboard I wonder what others may think.

Update:

I tried my OLD gfx card in a different PCI slot and the computer boots successfully

I tried the NEW gfx card in the same PCI slot that worked above but NO BOOT/POST/GFX fans do not spin

I tried my OLD gfx card in the original PCI slot and again NO BOOT/POST

Is it possible the new gfx is DOA and/or it shorted my original PCI slot that I've been using with no problems with my old gfx card?

Its very possible that something happened with your card in the original slot. And that your motherboard is defective because of that slot. It may be worthwhile to purchase a new motherboard at this point. And to if you can still return your card and exchange it for a new one.

my thinking here.

If it is your motherboard its better to be safe then sorry to remove the problem by having it replaced with something that won't continue to take out your hardware.

secondly if it was your card that messed with your motherboard it would be good regardless to return the card to pick up a new card.

Thirdly because of the current issues that have been going on with the current drivers 320.18 it would be wise use the older WQHL driver.

The older driver i spoke about

Yes, I've narrowed it down where I tried the 4x PCI slot with old and new video cards and the original GTX 275 works and boots.

Unfortunately I think the problem was either the mobo gave up and took it out on the new graphics card or the GTX 660 and my 16x PCI slot shorted at the same time as a result of just pure bad luck. Regardless, the 16x is burnt out - completely gone. I'm going to get a new mobo while the 660 is being RMA'd.

Thanks for all your help and consideration, bigshootr8.

Yea not a problem and be sure that you are in fact going through the store you purchased the card with I just want you to know its a better way to go then the manufacture you should still be in the clear as far as that goes :)

And not a problem any idea what motherboard you will go to? You can pick up a z77 board now wise as well rather then buying another z68 board probably something like the ASRock Extreme4 its relatively cheap.
Boards I'd consider if I were purchasing a new motherboard that was 1155

I would get on chat with them whether on the phone or online and talk to them through it. MAKE SURE they don't charge you for a restocking fee. BE SURE to drill home that it was a defect with the card. AND all will be well.

I really like the MSI board because its SUPER feature rich KILLER nic which used to cost over 100 dollars on its own to have. It prioritizes your internet connection to tasks. Also stronger onboard audio.
