Thanks friend for taking out time in reading this. I have a very dear companion in the form of a desktop. With time it grew old and became outdated. So,i have decided to give it a new life with few updates and ofcourse I need your help in this regard.
My Config:
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G31M-S2L
Processor
Double Intel (R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 Ghz
1GB DDR2 RAM
160GB HD
A so-so SMPS.(not very good) .

I would like to increase the RAM and get a good Graphics card ,so that I can play some of the latest game( not in ultra mode, but still...) .Please help me with the informations. What changes should be made.Best possible configuration with an limited budget(10-15k).Moreover I would like to install Windows 8.Will it be possible.

Additional info. I am Going to Mumbai next week.I am planning to buy the required things from there.

anyway, jokes apart, there is not really much u can upgrade in that system, any component u upgrade will be bottlenecked by the others .... best would be to build from scratch but for that u will need minimum 35-40k for a decent gaming build
Also i'm going to Lamington Road (that's the place in mumbai u get PC hardware cheap)around this weekend to get parts for a friend, wanna join me?

4GB will probably not even work on that board, and its still DDR2, and a Core 2 Duo won't be much of a performance boost, and he still has no GPU with this idea

Nonsense!
That is a reasonably modern 775 board. 4 GB will very likely work fine.
But yes still DDR2.
Core 2 Duo not much of a performance boost? Are you kidding?
It is two cores instead of one and is probably nearly 50% better as far as clock/instruction.

I upgraded a Celeron D to a Core 2 Duo. Went from being not able to play any games at a decent framerate and stuttering playing youtube to solid performance.

ok, i overlooked the G31, but an increase in RAM quantity will not improve game performance, the Core 2 Duo itself is 4 Generations old, u can get an i3 for the same price if ur ready to upgrade ur mobo, which will get u faster and cheaper RAM too, and u're still forgetting the fact that there is no GPU
and are u seriously comparing a Celeron to a Pentium? Celerons were originally designed to be ultra low end versions of Pentiums

Very true. The onboard chipset stinks bad. Look at a Radeon 6670/7750.
It maybe 4 generations old but it still kicks tail. The pentium 4 was used way past its prime (the original design is from 2000).

u can get only the GPU and RAM, and it will easily fit 15k, but the CPU will hold u back real bad in gaming

this is the minimum u need to get for decent gaming performance
Intel Core i3 3220 (Rs 7200)
Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H (Rs 4400)
Kingston 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM (Rs 4000)
nVidia Geforce GTX 650 Ti Boost (Rs 12500)
and a better PSU Corsair VS550 (Rs 3500)
total about 32k, i realise that is too much, more than double ur budget, but its the minimum u need for a decent medium range game performance, of course these are Flipkart Prices, u can get better deals at Lamington
