Hi,
I have ane external drive which one day stopped being accessible on my Mac. It prompted me to repair it in Disk Utility, but the repair option was greyed out. Now the drive doesn't show up in Disk Utility at all. However it does appear on a Windows system (although I can't access the data, even with MacDrive installed). The drive is physically working as I can feel it spinning up, there's no clicking or what have you, and the USB is definitely working as Windows detects the drive.

If I were to attempt to make an image of the drive on Windows would I be able to recover the data from that Image using Mac Recovery tools? Or will the drive image be encrypted (I have read there is hardware encryption on my model).

Is there anyway I can get the disk to mount or be visible to an OSX system so I can run DiskWarrior or the like?

Model#: wdbacx0010bbk-01. It's a 1 TB MyPassport 2.5" external drive.

Thanks!

Thanks for that. I've recovered data from plenty of drives over the years so don't need a general guide. My specific questions are:

1. Does anyone know about the hardware encryption on this model (wdbacx0010bbk-01)? If I make a disk image in windows using Acronis or the like, will it be encrypted and therefore useless?
2. Is there a trick to get this drive to mount again on OSX, given that I know it is physically working (it spins, and mounts on Windows, although I can't see what's on any partition because I don't have HFS+ recovery tools on my Windows system, just Runtime's GetDataBack).

Thanks again!
Tom

Unfort as the disk doesn't show up in diskutil, there's no way to get the dx s0y disk partition name to mount it. Unless there's another clever way I don't know about
