Hi guys

My PSU started making this weird noise (http://youtu.be/QJgjJjzmpLM) about 2 months ago. At the time they tested it in my local shop with other PCs (more powerful than mine) and it didn't happen again.

2 months later it reappered. Any idea of the cause?

Edit: I tried stopping the fan and the noise continues the same, so the problem should be somewhere else.

My specs:
XFX Pro 550W Core Edition
Asus p8z68-v lx
Intel Core i5 2400
Asus hd6770
Corsair Vengeance Blue 2x4GB
Samsung 830 128gb
Samsung f3 500gb

Thanks for the reply. I don't think the fan is the problem, since I stopped it and the noise continues the same.

In case it is a bad bearing, is it a serious problem?

Yes, it is still under warranty. In that case I will send the unit to XFX to see if they fix it. Thanks for the help

I have a very similar problem. sadly the video is not online anymore. i recorded it and the sound can be found here: http://www.xup.in/dl,19825255/record20131119011750.ogg/. sometimes the ticking is there sometimes it's not.

maybe the op could check if it's the same ticking noise and could tell what he finally did?

Greetings from Germany.

OP here, it was the exact same noise. I sent the unit back to the store and they replaced it with a new one. You should contact the place you bought it (that's what XFX will tell you if you contact them directly).

I know this thread is old but I just wanted to post my own solution for anybody with an issue.

I just got this PSU and it was doing a clicking noise, seemed to be caused from the fan somehow. I looked at it closely and I saw that the wire sleeves around the wires INSIDE of the PSU were frayed. It wasn't very clean, and the blades were actually hit it as they spun. I took off the fan grille and just pushed the frayed parts in so it wouldn't hit the blades. Can also probably tape it to the wires for a bit of a better fix.
