Wrong partition loosing space

I have 2 500Gig drives in raid 1. C partition and E partition

I'm taking a folder that's about 9.2 GB in size from a network drive and sticking it on my E partition.
Before the transfer C had about 30 GB free and E had 139GB Free
After C had 20.8 Free and E had 130 Free, so they both lost 9.2 Gigs of space.

Checked the disk clean up wizard and there isn't any huge temp folders it pointed out.

Where did this 9.2 GB go to?

How did you transfer the file? might be an application cache that is sitting on the c:

Copy paste from the remote machine. Is there a way to stop this.
Big pain if I've got 10 gigs free on one 100 on the other and I want to transfer more then 10 gigs.

44 GB in size...why didn't the clean up wizard catch it? Did it look at the wrong user?

Copy/Paste does exactly what you are experiencing. You're making a copy, and pasting it to another location.
The original still exists in the original location.

I'm copying it from a different computer/hard drive completely.
I'm not copying it from C to E. Sorry for the confusion

If it's one file... do a windows search for any file bigger then 8gigs on your c: see where its located.

It's a bunch of files, good idea though. C is my windows drive, is there a way to stop it from creating these temp files?

copy and paste is not suppose to create temporary files... did you access the files by a browser? could be its temporary files...

What I did is log onto a different computer on the network via RDP, copied a folder from one of it's hard drives onto my hard drive that got mapped via the RDP connection.

Ends up the folders get put in a folder called _TS9679.tmp
C:\Users\jonathan\AppData\Local\Temp\_TS9679.tmp

So the trick would be to map that drive to my computer and copy paste that way.

Just to be clear I'm not hitting copy from the RDP computer highlighting a folder on my computer and pasting, it's all done via the RDP window. I hope that makes sense

yes, best choice is to map a drive or use its network path (\\computername\c$) if admin shars are on... or create a shared folder...
