i have one radeon 7870 currently and was wondering for next gen titles if it would be smarter to get a second 7870 card to for the dual power or get the 7970. keeping in mind that the 7970 cost 100$-200$ more than the 7870

Crossfire is a bit of an issue at the moment now... Personally while you now have a decent current gen card that should be mostly fine, I would suggest waiting for the next gen AMD cards.

I'd say hang on to your card. Drivers are still relatively new and the PS4 graphical power is rated at a 7850 (obviously it has different memory / cpu architecture). Wait till a few games come out and see how it performs. Not before long AMD will be releasing their Radeon HD 9000 series ie. AMD Radeon HD 9970 (skipping 8000 for desktop).

They MAY be skipping, but doubt it... Anyway, realistically the PS4 will not have that powerful a GPU, the thermal can lack of dedicated VRAM makes it impossible.

If they do skip it, the HD 8000 series will be a rebrand of the HD 7000 series. So regardless if they release the HD 8000 line there will be no substantial changes if any. The HD 9000 series will have a vastly improved architecture and much higher clocks (link). Some are speculating the release of the HD 9000 at the end of this year.. if that's the case then I don't expect HD 8000 to be released for desktop at all and only limited to notebook and laptop platforms.
