Hello I have my first custom built gaming computer that I am having problems with. First of all I am pretty sure it is my GPU that is the problem. When i play certain games (The Witcher 2, Terraria, Bioshock, Skyrim, etc) and during videos from netflix and youtube i get little black dots across the screen or the whole screen goes into a fuzzy jumble of colors (sorry that's not a great description) or sometimes the screen just goes black but the game or video is still running and i can hear the sound as well. Right now all I do is Alt + Tab out and then it usually resumes to normal for a little bit. I would like to know for sure it is my graphics card because i dont want to spend money on a new one just to find out it was something else.

Here is my computer specs
CPU: AMD FX-4100 Quad Core 3.60 ghz
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD 6870
PSU: 500 W
Motherboard: MSI MS- 7693

Sometimes I even get the black dots on my desktop and browser. I have tried installing the most updated drivers and it has still persisted. I have been dealing with it for over a year because i thought i could fix it. What I would like to know is if this is definitely my GPU or if it could be something else. Also if I need to get a new GPU what would be a good recommendation for this system (preferably Nvidia).

If you need more information just ask.

Any kind of help would be very appreciated thank you.

When did you buy the GPU? make sure it's still under warranty and try contacting the company.

Thank you for responding so quickly.

About a year and a half ago. I bought it through eBay which was a mistake but its because I was being cheap. So I do not have a warranty.

did u say black dot's on your screen?it would be the monitor, sometimes dead pixel's causes it but since u are getting the problem while playing the games(game's video)then it is the video card, try updating the drivers, see if it works otherwise it's a faulty card.
But give me more details like exactly when does it happens?does it happens during watching videos only?

Yes black dots but they go away if I tab out or change the desktop background. I have updated the drivers. It occurs after a few minutes of laying games or watching videos and will only go away if I refresh by tabbing out. It happens during videos and games.
