So I have found a buyer for my current GPUs, and am still undecided as to whether the 7970 GHz 3Gb is the choice, or whether the superclocked EVGA 770 2Gb is enough and maybe to SLI it later.

Is the future proofing of having a single card with over 3Gb of memory necessary or is SLIng the 770 later a more viable option?? a hard choice.

If you're worried simply about the amount of memory, SLI will still only use 2GB as it has to duplicate the information. It doesn't double the amount of memory. So, I'd go with the 3GB single card.
