CPU Core i5 4670K

Anyone have safe oc and voltage with stock cooler? When i try and do 4.6 GHz and a core voltage of 1.220V it causes the system to reboot and windows (8) says pc encountered a problem. msi OC genie has the same problem. Anyone know of a solution? Thanks doods!

There could me multiple reasons why the system reboots. 1. Overclocking with the stock cooler is a BAD idea, causing heat issues, which most likely cause your PC to reboot. 2. It may be a unstable overclock. 3. Using a stock cooler. if you wan't to overclock, make sure you get a aftermarket cooler first. I would recommend the Hyper 212 evo.

Thanks for the quick respnse, I saw some guy get almost 3.9GHz off his stock cooler, I think it was at ~75 C

Is the 212 evo a ClosedLoop'er? Or this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099
It says its for 1155, not for the newer Haswell 1150.
thanks a ton

The 212 Evo is an air cooler. One of the more efficient ones out there, in fact. However, for the overclocks you seem to be looking for, a more powerful cooler such as the Noctua DH14 or a closed-loop liquid cooler may be required.

The 212 Evo is only $25-30, but it won't get you 4.6. Honestly, you're looking for rather extreme overclocks, particularly given that you have a Haswell CPU.

I would recommend the DH14 over the H100i. If he's going for a closed-loop, the Swiftech H220 or NZXT Kraken x60 would be superior options.

i saw this thing on someones wordpress. on his mac/hack he got to *ALMOST* 4.9GHz on a 4670k WITH the stock cooler around 69-73 C.

Like others have said, haswell tends to have varied overclock results depending on whether or not you got a lucky chip. Personally, I would never overclock that high and expect to keep it running in the long run with a stock cooler. The Swiftech H220 is a great cooler and I would also recommended it for the overclocking results you're looking for.

id like to put a Water block on my GPU as well. (MSI Gaming Ed. 770) it has the twin frozr 4 (really really good though) but runs at 60 all the time, undeload its like 75 to 65. I would love it if somone would be so kind as to tell me if my Crosair Carbide 400R will work with any of the suggested

If you want to expand to a full custom loop later, the H220 would be the ideal choice. Most closed-loop coolers cannot be expanded upon, but the H220 can be modified to include your water block (as well as, if memory serves, additional radiators). The 400R should support it, though due to sparse information in Corsair's specs I am unsure as to what size air coolers it will admit, so I can't say for sure it if will fit the NH-D14 or Hyper 212 Evo.
