Hi,
I have a problem where my PCI-E card does not get recognised. It's a strange one.
When I first boot up (turning machine on from wall first) the card is recognised fine and all is well. If I restart the machine, or shutdown and then restart without turning off at the wall the card is not recognised. What makes this truly bizarre is after a second reboot the card is again recognised! It seems as though there is a binary process going on where alternate reboots recognise the card?
When not found the card does not appear in the hardware list and a hardware search does not locate it.

OS: Windows 7 x64 Pro.
MB: Gigabyte EP45-DS3P
RAM: 8Gb DDR2 @533MHz
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
Bios: Award F8

Any ideas anyone

cheers,
Anthony.

Update the BIOS. Also, try a different slot.

There is no update for BIOS that I can find and there is only one PCI-E x1 slot.

thanks for responding

Is this your board: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...

Because I see three x1 slots, and a pair of probably free x16s.

Also, you might want to try the F9c beta.

Sorry what I meant was there are no free x1 slots. I have another card in one of them and the other slot is covered by the graphics card fan.

Am I able to put the card in a larger slot ? As I do have a PCI x4 slot free.

cheers,

Yup, you can. Also, you could try swapping the x1 cards.

Thanks for that, I never knew to try one of the larger slots. You learn something new every day.

I'll give it a go and get back to you.

Thanks.

Hi,

That has worked, the on off issue appears to have gone away.
Any idea what would cause the issue?

thanks for your great help.

If it was the slot that fixed it, there may be damaged trace on the board, or a missing/bent pin in the slot. Or some kind of config issue, with the board earmarking that lane for something else.
