I plan to buy a new GPU and MAYBE buy a aftermarket CPU cooler to overclock my AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE. I wanna know what is the highest GPU I could get with stock speed and overclock speed which is maybe 4 ghz since that is what many people have got with the phenom overclocked. I also game on 1920x1080 resolution.

Specs are-
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition - stock currently
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular High Performance Power Supply
MSI N560GTX Twin Frozr II/OC GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache
Acer G5 G215HVBbd Black 21.5" 5ms - 1920x1080

A 7970 would be the best GPU you could get without having to buy a "faster" CPU.

Though, why'd you spend that much money, I dunno.

I recommend getting a 7850/7870 Tahiti if you have the dosh to splurge.

nopes,a hd7970 will be bottle necked by your cpu,u can get a hd7870 boost version or wait for the gtx760 which is just a few days far to release(prob. june 25th) and is much better than the hd7870 and slightly better than gtx660Ti at 229$ and try to get one aftermarket cpu cooler

Nonsense.

One

Two

Three

Four

Can't find any hard evidence, but all opinions point to no. Sure, it could be an ad populum, but I doubt it.

knock.knock agtx670 and hd7970 are not the same...and ur links also prove to make it true that it will bottleneck the hd7970 but not that much,it will be minimal at higher resolutions but for that also he needs to do some overclocking for sure..

If you want an AMD GPU the 7950 http://amzn.to/12K7UAZ would be a good choice.

I am most likely buy the CPU cooler like out of 7/10. Also I prefer nvidia since I have never tried AMD cards and I heard switching drivers would be a pain in the neck.
But waiting for new GPU coming out would be a new idea? Would I need to upgrade my rig or can I just keep it. I plan to buy to buy around September.

Your compy is fine. It's not hard to uninstall GPU drivers. You just gotta make sure you do it right.

I recommend AMD over NVidia, not only for their superiority in terms of price:p erforms but also because there is RadeonPro. That' piece of software is amazing. 'Tis so good to have SweetFX, SMAA, FXAA and a bunch of tweaks in one big, non-conflicting program.

Okay then. But should I wait for the new GPU to come out? Also when most likely when. Also "compy"? I plan to play BF4 when it does come out.

By September, i think that nvidia would launch their gtx760Ti and that would be your best bet,if u are a nvidia fan then wait with ur current rig and don't upgrade till September
