hello

i am currently looking to buy a pc which i can take with me when i leave to work in annother country for a long time (5 months a year). but is also a powerhouse and can deal with all the upcoming games at high/ultra settings. i have been looking at a vast variety of laptops but i havent yet considered a mini pc. would a mini pc be a good option or will it be heavy, complicated and difficult to set up? i should also mention i am new to the pc gaming world and desperatly need advice!

many thanks

What kind of a budget do you have? I just picked up a MSI gt60 2OD laptop, 15.4" screen has a i7 4700cpu, 16gb of ram, 780m gpu, 120gb mssd, and a 1tb laptop harddrive. I'm leaving for mexico in a week for work and plan to take this with me so I can keep on gaming.

It all comes down to price and if you want to be mobile or not, laptop or mini pc. If you go with a laptop buy the biggest baddest thing you can find since you most likely wont be abel to upgrade the cpu or gpu, mini pc will give you some options.

If you will be moving around, you will probably have to ship the computer due to the monitor. You may be able to stow it in a large bag or a shipping container, but overall the shipping charges will add up to about what a gaming laptop would cost. For your ideas to play at Ultra settings, you're looking at about a $2,000 laptop or a desktop in the $1,000 range, not including the monitor and extra shipping costs to move it around. I'd go with laptop myself in this situation.

my budget is from £2000-2500 if im gonna get a good piece of kit i guess i would have to spend that much. i guess laptop is the way to go now that you guys have pointed out the problematic nature of having a mini pc and traveling. would you recomend your MSI? i can see its got some really good hardware but im also open to other brands, apart from alienware they seem a bit too pricy for what you get.

Yes I would. There have been a few small issues with it but nothing to break the bank with. I picked up a RAZER Orochi Bluetooth mouse for it, sometimes when I get the laptop out it will think the mouse is turned on and will deactivate the touch pad forcing me to get the mouse out. It also came with Win 8 (still the worst os for a computer) but once I put start 8 on it, to act more like windows should, ive been able to live with it.

I know use this a my lanparty rig replacing my 2600k\sli 580 rig, Full case with everything is just over 70lbs, so taking my laptop to game with and still keeping on par with my full tower is very cool.

I also added in a 128gb intel mssd for my programs and a 240gb intell mssd for my games just to make everthing run faster.
