Hello! I have a Asus A8R-MX motherboard with socket 939. The only dual-core CPU i have found in my country for this socket is the "OPTERON 2.6 185 Denmark". The opterons aren't listed in the SUPPORTED CPU's list in the manual provided with this motherboard, because the motherboard is manufactured in 2004, the Opteron 185 in may 2006. Could this CPU work with my motherboard? Thank You!

Solution
The difference in performance between the Opteron and 4000+ will be minimal. Increasing your RAM to 4GB would do more for overall performance, but DDR memory can be expensive and hard to find, as well.

There is a good chance that the Opteron will work with that older motherboard. However, you are likely to have issues just getting driver support for the motherboard itself. What operating system are you planning to use? Also, how much are you spending to make this old technology work? You might be much better off to spend your money on much newer (and capable) technology.

My PC:
-AMD Athlon 4000+
-RAM 1.5GB DDR
-ATi HD4650 Powercolor 512MB GDDR2
-MS Windows Vista Home premium
-HDD WD SATA 80GB + HDD Hitachi SATA 300GB

Im low on money so i planned to only upgrade the CPU , instead of building a new PC configuration. I will try this Opteron , thank You very much for your help!
