Performance of The GTX 770 For The Next Few Years

Solution
How long the performance will last depends entirely on which things you throw at it.

If you're wanting to play Crysis 4 whenever it's out, thennnnnnnnnnnnnnn.... Not much.

I think you'll play many games on High or Ultra now (except Crysis 3 for instance) and still have good FPS.

And then you'll be able to play on low or medium for various future (demanding) games I think, but it's difficult to put month/year on it.

Some games don't even take advantage of the GPU, because they're CPU bound. Tragedy eh.

I'd say not a chance. Not the highest settings (it'll depend on your resolution too and which games).

But it'll give you a lot of performance right now however and still be a good GPU for sometime. But if you're

expecting to always run the highest settings on newer and newer demanding games; I don't think so.

You'll most likely see yourself wanting to SLI the GPU by then; so in that case, prepare yourself with

a good motherboard.

Hmm. In this case, what GPU would you suggest to be able to run the highest settings for the next 3-4 years? Also, how long do you think the 770 would last for upcoming games at high(er) settings?

Hmm. I see. This answered my question well. So understandably, I don't want to shell out $800 for a GPU. Do you think that buying the 770 would be O.K for the next 1-2 years?

It's rarely ever a good deal to spend a ton of cash (unless you're rich and even then it's a waste almost) on the

most expensive high-end cards. You'll find the best value in the mid-range GPUs or around there. The GTX Titan

for example, is a crazy expensive GPU. But you know what? GPUs which cost far less (such as the GTX 770 or 80)

come so so so close to its performance, FPS wise, that you wonder why you'd ever even consider the Titan.

I would agree. I wouldn't spend 1k on a GPU. Hence why I wish to purchase the GTX 770. Inexpensive compared to other solutions and performs very well. But my concern is the future. How long will this performance last?

I doubt that I would be interested in Crysis 3 or 4. So based on that statement, I assume one 770 would do quite well for me then. Yes, it is pathetic that some games are so poorly optimized that they mainly take advantage of the CPU. Very sad. My questions have been answered. Thank you!

Well it was just an example, because Crysis is one of the absolutely most demanding games you're able to

find (Hence the age-old joke "Yes, but can it run Crysis?" whenever someone boasted about or put forth computer specs).

I'm sure you'll enjoy the 770. There's lots of nice features, not least GPU boost, which OC's your GPU according to some

set parameters. So if you can keep the GPU cool, then it won't reach whatever temperature threshhold you or the system

set and will thus keep OC'ing. People talk about the "GeForce experience" for reasons like this.

Well thank you for your in depth replies. I will keep everything you said into mind before purchasing said card. Have a wonderful day/night.

I have something to ask relating this. How long till the minimum requirements of a game first feature the 770, 780, or titan? By that, as you might have guessed, i mean that how long in years will it take for the 770,780,titan to be in the minimum requirements of an average game like CoD, Battlefield, Crysis or Elder Scrolls?

No idea. But I expect it to be many many many years still.

Those are high end GPUs and in most game recommendations the

minimum requirements are still below even GTX 650's. Recommended

rarely go higher than the 400-500 series either I think. I think it's to be expected

from big publishers; they know most people don't buy high-end hardware. Thus

in order to potentially sell the most units to the most people, they need to target

the lowest common denominators. However there are games in development like

Star Citizen that won't be as forgiving.

Ok then. Answer me this as i have not gamed on pc as i have on consoles. What ARE the minimum requirements? For a person the matches the minimum requirements exactly, what kind of playability can they expect? What framerates can they expect? Why are there recommended and optimal requirements then?
