Depending on the resolution you game at, a new modern graphic card will make the biggest difference for the least amount of money. The Phenom II X3 740BE is still a viable gaming CPU in spite of its age and can keep up with much faster GPUs than the one you have now. Your 550W PSU is of good quality, so you can use just about any card you can afford. Do you have a budget?

tyme says: took your advice and installed a friends XFX 7750 1G DDR5 card...seems better playing games above normal desktop settings of 1440x900..don't know how to Benchmark for frame rates? checked windows system rating...recalculated ...seems no change >all ratings 6.0..hum!... ??? thought I would see a change. Hard to find ram 1066 @ 1.8v....don't know how much difference it would make anyways? 1200 DDR2 supported by CPU-not common Ram! - thought I'd fill ya in on what I've found out to date.
