I've just built a new computer, and all the parts seem to be working alright, however the CD drive will not turn on whatsoever. I've tried plugging in different drives to see if it was just the CD drive but those dont work either, and I'm positive its not them. Could it be my power supply? Its a brand new power supply. And also, I don't think it's the SATA cable, because the computer detects my new SSD and HDD but not the optical drive. Not even when the other two are unplugged.

Did you plug in the data and power cables for the drive?

PSU=Power
DATA=Motherboard

check your motherboard manual in some of them if you plug a m or e sata port in a define port on the board the inside port wont work on this one so try another sata port and if it is not working check that drive in another system it could be defective .

We've tried multiple drives on the system. And yes, both cables are connected.

Thats a pretty decent PSU , with plenty of power to run that system.

It could be the PSU , but this issue is rare.

What exactly would be the issue with it, if it were the PSU? I mean, specifically.

Yes, I have tried both. I just don't understand how the SSD can be powered but the optical drive isn't?

Back in the old IDE days if you had a data cable problem the drive wouldn't open sometimes. That's the only time I've heard of this happening. I agree that trying a different port should be the fix.

If multiple drives won't work could be a power issue , Do you have another PSU to test with.

Bump. I really need some opinions. No one has given me any solutions yet... I'm guessing it is the power supply though because it doesn't even supply enough power for the HDD. The only thing that shows up in BIOS is the SSD. The power supply does not seem to supply enough power for the HDD pd optical drives though...

Yeah, so I called tigerdirect.com's 800 number and they said that they will send me another PSU in exchange for the current one. I will be doing this tomorrow. This really sucks.

Are the drive and optical on the same power cord? Maybe something is broken or loose.
