Hi, I plan on getting a hd 7950. Eventually I might get a second. Will a gold rated 660 watt seasonic be enough for the two cards? would it be better to go with a 750 or 850 bronze? I'd like to stick with seasonic.

I'm not sure which one you are looking at.

Running the math in my head and your CF system should draw somewhere around 550W or so. You'll be fine with the 660W gold unit as long as it has enough PCIe power plugs. I don't think I'd try OCing the system however. I'm not sure that spare 100W while handle OCing the CPU and GPUs.

Corsair TX650 V2 that I have can run 2 HD7950s. BUT I am cutting it fine with some OCing.
Soooo my suggestion is the TX750 V2.

Oh and yes, the TX V2 PSUs by Corsair are made by Seasonic.

Yeah but the TX isn't gold rated. That's the AX line if memory is working.

I don't see that Gold is a requirement? Besides, gold rated increases the price so much for no real good reason.
You would need to be running the PC under high loud 24/7 to justify the cost of power vs the Gold rated PSU.

It's a requirement because the OP said so? I semi agree, but with the newer PSUs coming out that are Platinum and higher gold rated PSUs are getting even cheaper. And it's also not just high loads, but low loads as well. A gold PSU at 20% draw has to be 87% which is higher then bronze at it's best. This means better efficiency at any load, not just high loads. I bought a 750W PSUs because I didn't know what GPU I was going to get. I'm going to dump my 80Bronze 750W for a 400-500W Gold as soon as I get around to it. I don't even want to think of the efficiency I get when I'm idle as its around 1/7th of its output. So very poor I'm sure. (And I spend most of my time just surfing, etc.)

Low loads = lower consumption. So its not as applicable.
Point is, at the moment you can't justify the cost of a Gold Rated PSU vs the Electricity you save. This will obviously change at some point as you said.

? Low loads mean lower efficiency. As I said, a750W bronze atidle is only doing 1/7th of iits output. This is below 20% where they test. As such some units will do ~75% which is really poor. Gold unit can do much better. On average.
