Apart from re-installing windows, which I can't do until I find my damn disk
(probably in the freezer or someplace random).

Certain files have been corrupted due to a crap-ton of updates I installed. It was something like 100 + SP1 over a few restarts in total. On the last restart it asked to check the disk before booting up, so I let it.

Many, many errors with files indexes or something in the winsxs folder.

ALL IN ALL, apart from a few other random ass problems I now have, Audio service has become corrupted and now states <Failed to Read Description. Error Code: 2 >. and the service itself renamed to AudioEnpointBuilder.

What I need is what files I need to replace so that I can "extract" them from a friends disk, or possibly download an ISO (with my slow ass speed) to fix it.

Or if there is some other way to re-install it.

If you have a valid key download the ISO and reinstall.......This has service pack 1

Thanks for the reply, first time in about 3 questions in a row asked on this site :(

Laptop has 6gb of ram, I did not even touch anything else other than windows update. It's always had the same drivers that ACER provides, and yes, after the problem occured, I tried downloading updated drivers from BOTH ACER and Realtek, but they still have the same error

"HD audio service has stopped working", whenever I start up. I think it's the software thing, but it's not broken or anything, it stops working simply because the Windows Audio service CANNOT start, and it cannot start because the dependant service "Windows Audio Endpoint Builder" can't start because "MODULE IS MISSING".

I really don't want to have to re-install windows for that one problem... Can't I just do like on good old XP, and "repair" windows using the system disk?

I suppose so. I'll do it in a few hours while I backup stuff.

Hopefully in the meantime someone will have an easier solution.

*sigh* If only there was an alternative (a good one) to Windows...

Edit: Quick sidenote, windows update has 3 updates now. and they fail to install every time with an error that I googled. It's saying I need to update my drivers. Ha.
