Why do computer components cost more in New Zealand?

Hey all,
I was looking at graphics cards and was wondering why the American pricing was so much cheaper than the New Zealand pricing.
Here are two links:

The NZ one: http://www.pcforce.co.nz/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-780-pcie-3gb-ddr5-p-2730.html
The US one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130916

When you convert the NZ dollar to USD it becomes $893. Compare that to the $650 one on newegg. Could somebody please explain to me why this is and if it would be worth it to get a new card shipped from America?

P.S. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, or on the wrong website for that matter lol

Thanks.

God it sucks though doesn't it? I might as well just move to America lol. But would you recommend buying from America or do you reckon it would be a waste of time/unreliable?

You think you have it bad! LOL I live in South Africa, I pay 4400 South African Rand which translates to 440$ for a 300$ graphics card.

Anyway, imports are not worth it if its available in the your country, shipping can damage components and getting something RMAd from another country can be IMPOSSIBLE!
On top of that you would have to pay import taxes yourself anyway, which may or may not save you money.

Looks like I'm moving to America then lol.
Thanks for you help

I'm across the Tasman from you, same situation.
It shouldn't even work like that, most of these components are made in South-East Asia.

But shipping, a low Aus/NZ dollar (compared to the US) and the fact there just isnt as much competition (theres no Newegg down here, and Amazon AU is just tacked onto the side of the UK).
High prices unfortunately.
