Hey everyone. I am looking to upgrade my old Acer monitor to a full HD one, IPS if possible (everyone says it's the best, though I don't know much about it TBH), and I saw this deal linked in another forum: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260105&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=361116&SID=FWbuqsmf

It's the Dell S2340L for $139.99, which is far and away the best price I've seen an IPS monitor at. Naturally that raised my suspicions, even though it got decent reviews on Newegg.

So basically, I don't want to buy the wrong monitor. I am upgrading my GPU to a 770 or 780 in August and want everything to look great. Will this monitor do it for me, or should I look at a different one for gaming?

BTW I am totally open to suggestions on better monitors :)

from what i can tell....

it looks like an ah-ips. not sure exactly what the differences are with this subtype except that it is cheaper to produce.

its listed at 16.7million colors but i'm not sure if its true or via dithering. it could be 6 or 8 bit but 8 bit panels normally cost twice the normal asking price which makes me hesitant to say for sure. tn panels are 6 bit which means that lower end ips panels (typically e-ips not sure about this new version) will have similar color accuracy to them. the 8 and 10 bit panels (which are normally very pricey) can actually display more colors.

7ms response is rather good for an ips panel. as long as this is a maximum you shouldnt really have much trouble.

this has a glossy coating which...

The listed price (that I see) is $189.99 with a $50 off coupon code listed, so $139.99 total.

My budget is somewhere under $200 or so for a 23" full HD monitor, again with IPS if possible.

this has a glossy coating which will make colors pop however it will have killer glare. personally i prefer matte coatings for much reduced glare. colors arent quite as vibrant but my eyes also dont hurt from the glare.

for $140 it may very well be worth jumping at though. typically it can be hard to even find low end e-ips for that price.

just my thoughts...
