Problem w/ new PC after power outage (Please help)

So here's how my day has gone:

I bought a gaming pc a couple weeks ago which arrived today. I eagerly went to pick it up from the depot, brought it home and began setting things up. Updated the drivers etc, set up Steam, began downloading a game. Twice during these initial steps, the screen flickered and horizontal lines came up intermittently. Once, the screen went black and I had to manually restart the computer. At the time my guess was that it had something to do with drivers for my monitor, as its a bit old and Acer don't make a driver for Windows 7, just Vista. For this reason I couldn't use the monitors speakers as well. Other than that everything was going fine.

Midway through downloading a game, the power went out for most of the city including me. It was out for 45 mins or so. Now when I start my computer, there are horizontal lines and various other graphical glitches all over the password screen. When I attempt to login, the system crashes to a blue screen which says the computer must shut down in order to prevent damage. It recommends I check any new hardware that's been installed (just every bloody component then!).

I've been using a Macbook for the last 6 or 7 years, haven't used Windows much at all. Anyone know what is happening here? I'm now quite worried they'll try to void my warranty on the power outage.

P.S. Yes I know I should have built it myself, I've never tried before and thought this would be more convenient.

Try a different monitor to see if there is any horizontal lines, if your PC have an integrated graphics like an i5-3570k, try plugging your monitor into the motherboard instead of the graphics card.

It is a Corsair CX500. I configured and bought it from cyberpowerpc.com so it doesn't have a shitty motherboard or psu. the GPU for what its worth is an AMD HD 7850 2GB, processor is an i5 3570k. I'll try plugging the monitor into the motherboard rather than the GPU.

Will try what's been said so far tomorrow, thank you. I take it the horizontal lines thing is generally indicative of a GPU issue? It may also be making a harsh buzzing sound, I'm fairly sure it wasn't doing that before but I'm not 100%. Will CyberPowerPC be able to tell in some way that there was a power outage? I've reread my warranty and it says warranty doesn't apply in that case. There was clearly an issue beforehand but I'm worried they won't accept that after hearing there was a power outage.
