Hello there everyone.

I've decided that it's definitely time for me to upgrade and buy an SSD for my build. Although, I'm not quite sure what the best size (for the money and use) is for them nowadays. And I'm not sure what the best use for them is either. I know the most common is that folks have one dedicated to their OS, strictly, but then what? Do I install my programs as well onto an SSD or on a regular HDD? And my files? I currently have a WD Blue 7200RPM 64MB 1TB HDD.

What kinds of SSDs, in terms of size, brand, and price do you recommend? What is the best way I can utilize an SSD to have a better experience on my build.

Thanks in advance!

Any respectable brand SSD is good, not much of a noticeable difference in everyday performance.

Common uses are.
(1) 30GB for OS and startup programs. That's it
(2) 60GB for OS and all programs. maybe some documents.
(3) ~60GB for drive caching in newer intel platforms.
(4) 125-250GB for a fast drive with OS/programs and lots of games/files. Most common around here.
(5)500~ GB for mindblowing performance on everything. rather wasteful.

As you know, SSDs are expensive. buy what you are comfortable with. There will be a good use for anything.

Reputable brands seem to be: ADATA, Crucial, Corsair, Sandisk, Plextor, Samsung, Intel.
