New in-game crashes to desktop - new SSD vs lightning storm?

Hello everyone,

I have a relatively dumb question, but it's really distracting me nonetheless.

I built a PC about 6 months ago (phenom II 965, GTX 660, 16gb ram), and it ran without a hiccup throughout 120hrs of skyrim and 60hrs of farcry 2. I then had the brilliant idea to install an SSD (samsung 840) 128gb, as a secondary drive, found that downloading steam mover (with all of the bloatware that snuck onboard along with it) and trying to run programs off of the drive while my OS was still installed to my HDD was too complicated for me, THEN bought a 256gb SSD and just clean reinstalled my OS onto that (with the 128gb on as a right-now-empy second drive). BTW, there was a small thunderstorm that night once I was done (talk about confounding variables).

Now borderlands 2, which I'm forty hours into from my prior OS install and had been running beautifully, crashes on average one time per session to desktop during busy combat scenes. Drivers are all updated etc except for SSD firmware, which I can't update because my OS is on it?

I'm worried my comp has been struck by lightning.

Thanks.
