After I updated my BIOS(to support ivy bridge) I've been getting really weird problems.

The first problem is I can't restart my PC from windows. Once I press restart it logs off, goes to the windows is shutting down screen, then to a black screen. It gets stuck at the black screen. I have to do a manual restart to restart my PC now.
I tried sitting at the black screen for 10 mins, but it still wouldn't restart.

The second problem is 10 mins ago I was having freezing issues. On Firefox, flash would keep crashing over and over again. Then Firefox crashed, then I opened the Windows control panel, and then Windows froze completely.

These are some weird issues. How can any one these issues be related to updating a BIOS? I reset my BIOS settings before updating it.

I changed my RAM from 1333 to 1600(it's original speed) and the same problems still occur.

My motherboard is an Asrock Z68 extreme 3 gen 3.

Updating the BIOS is good, but may want to check and make sure all new mobo drivers have been updated also, generally when the BIOS is updated to support new CPUs there's all a rash of driver updates for other components integrated to the mobo, like the SATA, USB, Audio, GPU, etc...Check their site and update all to current
