New build - Looking for advice on what I have picked out

Quick caveat: Don't feel the need to read past the first paragraph and part list. I don't want to scare off help with too much reading, that info is just there for anyone interested.

I am building this computer to replace my current one, for general use and gaming. I will be using it constantly and I would like to be able to multitask without too much of a performance hit. I am happy to spend some more money if there is a good reason to upgrade from what I listed. Mostly looking for advice on whether I am overlooking something, cutting costs where I shouldn't or if I haven't planned for the future properly. Also I welcome any general ideas on making this computer better/faster.

- I plan on overclocking
- I may add a second GPU in the future

Below I listed what I have already and what I was thinking of buying. Below that
I wrote my reasoning for those parts if you would like to know where I am coming from.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600

Already own:

Storage: Intel 520 Series 120GB 2.5" SSD
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card: MSI Radeon HD 7950
Case: Corsair CC650DW
Power Supply: Corsair Professional 850W 80 PLUS

CPU:
Fast and I can overclock it. The 4th gen i5s are out but I don't see much of a performance boost, they use more power and I assume they run hotter. I don't think an i7 will give me any improvement in speed since I won't be doing any video editing type things (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm happy to pay more for a more powerful processor as long as i'll see the difference.

Cooler:
Has good reviews. Good price. I plan on overclocking so maybe I need something better?

Motherboard:
Has good reviews and a good price. Two PCIe 3 x 16 slots (seems good if I decide to buy a second GPU later on since the 7950 utilizes it). I don't see the need for more than two 6Gb/s SATA ports since I think the SSD is the only thing that can utilize it. Am I not thinking forward enough here?

Memory:
Good reviews and I think it's near the best speeds I can get. If I don't buy while it is on sale I will probably buy the same ripjaws x series but with 9 Cas instead of 8 (Which I don't know much if anything about except it's supposedly a little worse). It is a little cheaper. Buying 8Gb because I don't think I will do anything that utilizes more than that and I can always buy more.

Optical drive:
I didn't list one because all I'm looking for is a cheap DVD drive that can burn DL discs. I think I can find that myself. Aside from those functions all I would look for is a minimalist/black front

It's a really nice build my friend. But my personal experience with ASRock is very bad. So I suggest go with Asus or Gigabyte mobo. Onething more get gtx 770 if u can it is much better otherwise thisone is also good.Other parts are solid.
I hope it helps.
Thank you.

The 212EVO is pretty much as good as it gets under $60 so unless you plan on attempting substantial overclocks, it should be more than good enough.

Just a head sup, that case is going to be monstrous, I have the 600T which is advertised as a mid tower as well, and it is smaller than that one, but still huge. It is nice to build in but in hind sight I would have gone for a true mid tower.

What would you consider substantial? Anything beyond 4.0?

Ok so maybe asrock is out. In that case I am wondering if you think it matters if the mobo I get has one pcie 3 x16 and a second pcie 3 that is x8 if I plan on possibly adding a second GPU into the x8. Should I go for a mobo where both are x16?

Also Newegg has a deal right now for an i5 4670k plus a mobo. one is asrock and the other is gigabyte but it has one x16 and one x8. Should I go for it?

[edit] it took me about 3 minutes of googling to answer my own question. I think I shoudl go fo 2 x16 slots. As far as your experience with asrock, how long ago was that, what was bad about your experience and what kind of reviews did your mobo have? The one I picked out had a sold 4/5 and plenty of reviewers.

Unless you get a motherboard that has an expensive PLX or similar PCIe switch on it (you would be usually be looking at $300+ boards in this case), the PCIe configuration for those x16 physical slots would actually be x8x4x4 electrical when all three PCIe 3.0 slots are in use - the bandwidth is provided by dividing the CPU's 16x 3.0 lanes between active slots using simple PCIe multiplexer chips.

As for "significant overclock", the 212EVO might take you to 4.2-4.5GHz depending on luck, which is only 10-15% above stock turbo-boost.

Ok great. I think I'm probably going with a newegg combo deal with the 4670k and GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H instead of my original decision.

If I get those and I'm going to overclock should I get different memory from what I originally posted? Does overclocking your CPU affect your decision in RAM or overclocking that RAM?

On K-chips, core multipliers are independent from RAM multipliers so whether or not to worry about RAM depends on how much you want to overclock the RAM as well.

If you aren't planning to overclock the RAM (much), you can stick to what you have already picked. Unless you plan to use the IGP though, there isn't much benefit to going much beyond 1600 - at least on Ivy Bridge; I haven't seen data about whether or not that story changed with Haswell.

I will not be using integrated graphics and I probably won't bother overclocking the ram at all or very much unless there's a good reason to so I will just stick to 1600.

Thanks!

Hi
I used 5 mobos from ASRock for my friend's build. 3 mobos were dead in one and half year and other in two years completely. Before dead problems come like bios, PCIe slots , heating. Only few days ago I changed 3 mobos to Asus p8z77-v lk, pro and maximus v gene.
Thank you.
