Hello,

so first a short story about what happened. I have Gainward GTX 670 SLI, and OCed them 125MHz on GPU and 400MHz on Memory. Stable, and no problems. But the fans were so LOUD. Ofc, you don't want to reduce the OC. So I read about this "mod" with CPU Watercooling. Bought H70 and started to disassemble. I obviously has messed up something on the board with a clumsy screwdriver, so it says "Please connect power PCI Express power cables to the graphics card".

TLDR: One of my cards is dead, and now I want to buy something else. CBA another GTX 670. The other card I can sell or give to my gf.

So, specs...

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Order today or tomorrow :)

BUDGET RANGE: 800-1000$ for ONE card or SLI in total.

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming and streaming HD videos.
Want to run Crysis etc on ULTRA settings with >60 fps.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY:
Gainward GTX 670 SLI (one dead)
Corsair AX860i.

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS:

Intel i7 3770
ASUS P8Z77-v DELUXE,
Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Elite 1600Mhz 8GB, 8GB kit(4GBx2)with temp sensor,1.5V, CL8-8-8-24

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: www.komplett.no www.dustinhome.no

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Norway

PARTS PREFERENCES: Only had Nvidia, GTX 275 and GTX 670. Don't really mind to try other cards, as long as they are cool and quiet with some OC. :)

OVERCLOCKING: Yes SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Yes

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080,

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Cooling is very important, can't be arsed with jetfan noise. :)

----------------------------

Been looking at the GTX 770 and 780. GTX 770 SLI seems like an ok setup, but have no clue what type of manufacturer.

Also took a look at the titan, but not sure about the value.

HD 7970 XF is also an alternative. What do you think?

GTX770 SLI would be a strong choice. Consider 4GB versions if they're not excessively more expensive - with two GTX770 GPUs you'll have a lot of rendering muscle for just 2GB GDDR5.

I think 770 SLI is ur best bet. Tom's just said that at $400, the 770 is the best bang for buck. the next price range was 780 which is like $650, then the Titan and 690, which are both $1000. and the most powerful setup would be the 770's in SLI.

Yeah, for price/performance your best bet is GTX 770 in SLI. I prefer Asus brand but I know a lot of people who also like MSI.

Yeah MSI vote here, after Gigabyte and EVGA :-)

I think you really can't go wrong with any of those four brands. Everyone just typically has a preference :-)

The 4gb GTX 770 is like $640 here.

Anyone knows if this card is running cool and easy to OC? I really can't find myself buying gainward with that small fan spinning at light speed... :)

I've heard it runs fairly cool and quiet, but as for OC room I'm not too sure. Keep in mind the 770 is the 680 but revised. So tweaking has been done to improve it, and they upped the clock rates as a result.

It's not a must to OC. If it's factory OC, I'm OK with that. Do I really need 4GB? The choices were not that many with 4GB.

Just saw this and will read a bit. :)  http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-gtx-770-gk104-rev...

How much memory you need depends on two things: Do you play games with mods that use high textures, and what kind of monitor setup are you doing (screen resolution)?

I alternatively want to suggest a single-card solution in your price range, a GTX 780 @ $650.00.

Its not going to perform at the level of 2x GTX 770s, even with a "per dollar" comparison. But when you come across titles that offer poor or no SLi support, it performs better. I prefer the "safe" route when picking a GPU, and I consider a single-card solution to be just that. But I offer this opinion merely as a consideration, as its entirely possible that your favorite titles have great SLi support.

I do agree with gmkos. Great suggestion bringing that up! I prefer not having the hassles that comes with SLI for those reasons.

A lot of my recommendation will derive from what the OP says his monitor setup is.

I'm just running one monitor with 1920x1080. Thank's for the advices. I really don't need 2 cards, but it's the "cool-factor" as well. :p

If i go for 770 SLI i think I will go for this:
- Runned cool in test and low fan speed + the OC

Okay, since you're using a single monitor you'll be fine with 2 GB models. 4 GB models would be extremely over kill with a single 1080 monitor.

OK, thanks.

I will go for GTX 770 SLI with the MSI Ligthning card.

I'll post a pic in this thread when it's up and running.

Thank you all!

With a 1080p monitor, if you do go with something like the 770 SLI, don't go messing around with extreme OCing. It may look good for a benchmark, but you really won't gain much if anything at that resolution. Even with a 120hz version. Save your cards and enjoy the performance with a more reasonable fan profile that isn't so loud.

Thanks for the input. That is actually a very good point, since my GF is a bit bothered with my GTX 670 70% fan profile... :)  With the factory OC MSI has on these cards, I think there is little to no reason to do some serious overclocking.

Regarding the monitor, I made another thread about new one. Will go for something like 144Hz, with Nvidia 3D vision 2 support.

OK guys, got my 770 SLI with MSI Lightning cards.

Really nice cards, the fans are amazing. Need lots of exhaust to get rid of the heat, but that is no problem on my rig. Also got the new sticks and 3770k instead of non-k.

Hope you like it!

A pic to prove it! :)
