Bulldozer to Haswell?

Hey guys! I have always used AMD due to the cheaper price and decent performance. I play games on what a lot of gamers would consider bleh fps (avg is about 30-45 most games with infrequent the dips and drops included). I'm wondering if I should wait for next gen AMD and hope its better than pile driver (and the same socket) or if I should switch to the better performer. I know that I should upgrade. I just want the biggest bang for my buck right now.

My rig is as follows
AMD FX6100 OC to 3.6GHZ

16 GB G.SKILL Sniper Series DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)

1 x Kingston HyperX SH100S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III

PNY 680 GTX 2GB

I think you should wait until piledriver, mainly because it will likely be compatible with AM3+. That wasy, you wont have to upgrade your motherboard, reinstall windows, reapply thermal paste and reinstall the cooler, and all that good jazz.

If you can afford i5 4670k or i5 3570k, I would recommend to get one of them. Ivy/Haswell does not matter, but those i5s are the best bang for buck to me although they are a lot more expensive than FX6100.
If you do not want to OC, E3 1230V2 or V3 looks also nice (be carefull choosing mobo for the V3, not all 1150
mobos are currently compatible with it)

If you are an AMD fan, I would recommend FX8350 instead of FX6100.

FX-8350 is a decent gaming chip from what I've seen..comparable to an i5-3570k on most titles. This would prevent OP from upgrading his entire platform and save him a bit of money.

Ive been an AMD fan, but it always appears that Intel is always wrecking AMD. I'm relinquishing brand loyalty because I'd rather not have to think about upgrading my CPU every other year.

If you're wanting a CPU to last, I would personally recommend the i5-4670k. From what you've said, I believe you've been upgrading your CPU every few years to keep up with gaming demands.

Get an i5, drop it in, be done with it for a few years. :)

You're aware Piledriver is already out? The FX-83xx chips are on the 'Piledriver' architecture, it has been available since October last year. Nevertheless, I would recommend the 8350 if you can't afford to wait, it's cheaper and more valuable imo, and this is coming from someone who jumped from Bulldozer to Ivy (8150 to 3770K)

Though, I guess it depends what you play. In my games, having jumped the 8150 to 3770K, I have no noticed a significant performance difference.

That is true, I probably am over reacting, I went from a phenomenon to Bulldozer without even reading reviews, and got a lil shafted when my fps barely improved.

I am aware piledriver is already out. I can wait as well, I wasnt sure if the next gen AMD had anything going for it. I think its called Steam roller. Also their is a "Pile driver refresh" coming out soon I believe

I believe there are some Steamroller based APU's coming out soon. You can get a general idea of how they perform by looking at how they stack up against current Piledriver APU's :)

It totally slipped my mind you would have to do a platform upgrade....I would definitely stick with AMD for a bit longer and see what they offer.

My bad, I was thinking steamroller, whatever the hell amd's next core lineup is.

Im rolling with the A10-5800k, and I can't wait for the next gen APU's to come out. I just want something with some L3 cache. Please.

Neither can I  I'm itching to make a small portable gaming rig.

I have to say, they do have some beef, for integrated graphics. L3 cache is the main bottleneck, IMO.

This is totally unrelated but since this forum seems really active with helpful people I was wondering if someone could tell me if my ram was "quality ram" and if i "upgraded" my ram to "quality ram" what that would impact. Ive built computers for years, just throwing parts together only understanding that for the most part the bigger numbers were better.

So I guess I'll wait to see how steamroller pairs against bulldozer before I make any rash decisions. I diddnt know if anyone knew if their were any surprises coming from steamroller, rumors etc.

What exactly do you mean by quality ram?

Dont know. I guess I just made it up XD.

1866mhz ram will probably provide best bang for buck, but honestly, 1600mhz will do more than ok.

All depends on price. Though, realistically, you won't notice much difference between the two memory frequencies (at least from experience) for day-to-day use.
