I just went through reorganizing a server test lab, and I have a bunch of old OM1 (62.5/150) FC trunks with the huge fiberglass stiffener rods stuck in the cable trays. In order to get them out, I will have to cut them apart. I can get through the outer casing and the actual FC part of the cable just fine, but I can't cut the fiberglass stiffener rod with anything I have: scissors, wire cutters, exacto knife, pocket knife. Does anyone know a good tool for cutting this kind of stuff?

Overkill, yes. But it will work.

Wow. I hadn't expected quite that answer. I'll see if our facilities guy has one.

See if he has a fine toothed blade.

no, that didn't work too well. The saw just got tangled up in the fiberglass and was just tearing the glue that was holding it together. A bolt cutter worked best for cutting the glue and breaking the center core, and then I used scissors on the loose fiberglass left behind. It's lengthy, tiring, and frustrating, but it is working.
