GTX 770 Stuttering Issues

So I just installed my new GTX 770 and have found some stuttering issues across many games. It is most pronounced in BF3, where I have solid framerates but stuttering at almost unplayable levels. It also pops up to a lesser extent in Bioshock: Infinite and Batman: Arkham City. Overall, performance is simply not as smooth and fluid as I expect it to be and it is very frustrating.

I really have no clue what the cause of the stuttering is. Any ideas? I am on 320.18, and have talked to a few others with 770's, some with the exact same model as mine who have had zero stuttering issues, which is even more frustrating!

Gigabyte 4GB GTX 770
i5 2500k @ 3.3GHz
8GB RAM
800W PSU

Any help or ideas for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You probably need to do a super install of the new driver. First delete the Nvidia drivers then re-install them for starters. If that doesn't work, then you have to pull the card, delete the driver, then install the card, then install the driver.

Ok, I will give that a go. Also, what do you mean by "pull the card". Like physically out of the case? I don't have another card to use.

I agree with uninstalling the old drivers completely. Download and install Driver Sweeper from Guru 3D. Uninstall everything nVidia. Reboot. Then run Driver Sweeper. Let it scan, have it clear everything up. Then reboot again. Then install 320.18 and select "Clean Install" as it installs. This way it won't reuse any previous settings that could have been missed.

See if that helps.

Yes, pull the card out of the case. Use the motherboard connection (uses cpu graphics).

Ok, I did a "clean install" of the 320.18 drivers and the stuttering still persists. I don't have the cables for a motherboard connection for the taking the card out of the case option.

Up to date as far as I'm aware. ASUS P8P67-M, BIOS Version 3701 which I updated to just a few weeks ago and is the most recent version found on ASUS's website.

That motherboard of course does not have integrated graphics. So you can't run without a video card to begin with. Do you have another video card you can pop in just to make sure it works? To rule out an issue with the PCI-Express slot?

The GTX 770 should be running each of those games smooth as butter. Possible you could have a bad GPU. What's the model/brand of your PSU? Just to rule out whether it's a potential issue.

The reason you pull out your graphics card is sometimes Windows gets too smart and will automatically install some random driver on boot up seeing the graphics card and no driver. Perhaps you can disconnect from the internet to thwart your crafty operating system.

After toying around with a bunch of other games, including MoH: Warfighter which runs the same engine as BF3, it might be only BF3 that is a problem. Warfighter runs smooth as butter, 60fps, everything maxed, zero stuttering, it's perfect. So I'm thinking I might just reinstall BF3 to see if that corrects the problem, because that game has really been the one giving me trouble.

It's a Gigabyte 4GB GTX 770, for reference.

Hmmm, BF3??? That tends to be CPU intensive. Especially in multi-player mode. Perhaps you need a quality cooler and overclock your processor to a good 4.5GHz.

Cooler Master 212 EVO is about your best buy. A Noctua Monster NH-C14 or something similar will get you a bit more cooling at twice the price.

I've got a custom water cooler from iBuyPower (yes...no shame) that has been great. I OC'd to 4.4GHz last weekend and temps never got above 70C when running Intel Burn Test. The only thing is, the damn overclock didn't exactly do anything and only made performance considerably worse in many games, but that's a different story.

If I'm still having BF3 issues after I reinstall I'll check back and see where to go next, but for now I think my stuttering problem is confined to BF3.

Overclocking made things worse? You have some sort of problem, either overclocked too much, or a bad CPU/Motherboard/RAM.

That's what I feared. For the time being, I have reverted back to my default CPU settings/clocks and everything is running smoothly, CPU temps are fine, ITB says my CPU is stable, etc. so at DEFAULT at least I think I'm ok. Do I need to worry if, at default at least, things are looking fine?

What would be the "problem", though?

Only other factor not considered... specifically with regard to BF3... is latency. Even if someone ELSE on the server has extremely high latency they can causes game warping/stuttering for others. I've had this happen. Just throwing that out there.

Otherwise, if running your CPU at stock has resolved your issue you may not have had a very stable OC.

After reinstalling BF3, things have smoothed out considerably. Somebody on the Geforce forums suggested I post a picture of what I presume is my frame latency.

There is still a little bit of stuttering, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it was before. It might just be on the network side of things that I really didn't really pick up on before, mainly because I didn't expect a perfectly smooth framerate with my old card.
