Hey everyone,

So basically I have the EVGA GTX 780 SC w/ ACX cooler ordered through NCIX already since last week, but I've been told that I won't be getting mines until another 2-3 weeks at least due to the absurdely low stock in pretty much every site. So, I've been thinking, is the ACX version of the card really all that great? Or can I gain similar or even higher levels of overclocking with, say, the Asus reference heatsink version of the 780 without a major temperature difference?

I'm thinking about just changing my order from the ACX version to just the standard version since that card is actually in stock at NCIX. Unfortunately my money is stuck with NCIX due to some order processing issues there, so I can't go camping my Newegg or EVGA notification alert email to buy it from there as I normally would have! Lol. Sucks cause when I ordered at NCIX it said it was in stock and then poof once my money got taken it said it was back ordered!

So what do you guys think? How does the performance compare in real world gaming situations? Should I wait it out on the back order waiting game for the ACX version, or should I just get the Asus standard version of the 780?

Thanks!

The regular cooler is good but the aftermarket one is better. The main thing you are going to notice is noise, the ACX cooler is somewhere in the region of 10-15C cooler, which means it can run at the same temperature with lower fan RPM. If you don't really care about noise (the stock cooler is still surprisingly quiet) then you haven't got much reason to wait around. Also none of them are guaranteed to overclock better, they are all using the same PCB and currently there are no models with a better binning process, Nvidia aren't allowing it because stock 780's are already beating Titans.

Wow, nice. Yup, I'll definitely wait it out then. I have all my parts ready for the new build just waiting to get used lol, can't wait to get video card shipped to start this beast out! Gonna be a rough 2-3 weeks.

That review is comparing the GTX 780 ACX SC to a STOCK GTX 780. I bought the EVGA GTX 780 SC, which is the same card in the review without the ACX cooler. I did not want the ACX version because it vents all of the hot air into the case instead of out of the case. The way the hot air was vented is the defining choice between the two cards.

I have not tested this personally, but from what I understand the ACX version will keep the card cooler and quieter, at the expense of having all of the hot air stay inside your case. The stock cooler is slightly hotter and louder but it will expel all of the hot air out of the case.

I have had the EVGA GTX 780 SC with stock cooler for about three weeks now and I love it!

They are both great cards, but despite the fact that the ACX cooler vents hot air into the case more it apparently runs QUIETER and gives BETTER PERFORMANCE.

Other than recommending the ACX version and ensuring proper case cooling (front intake fan etc) I'm not sure what else to take away from this.

You know simply punching in "EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX" into google will get you at least 4 reviews on the first page, with each review comparing the reference card versus the aftermarket acx card.

Then you'll have hard numbers to inform, rather then a bunch of opinions based off hard numbers or something intangible.

Not to be rude, but if you glanced at the comments you'd see I gave a link (2nd comment) and he responded (3rd comment) and said "Thanks" and he'd keep the ACX version.

The asus card wins if you overclock the card, check this out

They are all almost Identical, I bought the asus card; however, asus made a custom pcb board for this card, if I were you I would pick the cheaper or the one with the longest warranty.
hope this helped you!.

As I said above, he's already picked his card. There's no need for more recommendations.
