Hey there,
I have a NVIDIA nForce 730i motherboard with an Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.0GHz and ordered an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400. I installed the new CPU and the rig would start and then shut down within 5-10 seconds.

I ordered new RAM, DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit. After tonight's extensive research I noticed the supported speeds peaked at 800MHz, will the RAM I ordered not work?

Thanks

Solution
You don't give your motherboard name, but the support site will have a list of supported CPU's. If your CPU isn't supported that may be your problem.

Other CPU issue:
1) It's "supported" but only with a BIOS update
2) Isn't seated properly in socket (or to COOLER)
3) CPU power cable not attached to motherboard.

RAM:
The only issue that should matter is that the VOLTAGE doesn't match. In general, most DDR2 SDRAM should work. It would just peak at 800MHz since that's all the motherboard supports.

Had to do with the BIOS update and CMOS reset, thanks!
