How can I change USB output voltage from mobo?

I have a Sager 8662 laptop and a targus chilling mat, which cools the computer with two fans that draw power from the laptop's USB port.

When I game, the computer gets hot even with the chilling mat running so I would like to increase the fan speed. Since there is no driver associated with the targus chilling mat, the only way to increase the fan speed would be to manually increase the voltage supplied through the USB port.

I'd like to know how I could increase the USB voltage using software.

I'm fully aware of the risks of overvolting hardware.

Thanks in advance guys, just on an off note tomshardware is one of the most helpful forums out there for me.

To my knowledge you can't. Or at least shouldn't. I'm pretty sure if you mod your board like you want, you are going to overvolt all the USB ports. Assuming you've done the math on the fans and you know they can take it, are you sure your other USB devices can?

Seeing as you only need the power wires, find a "wall wart" plug that has the power figures you want and splice a female USB plug into it. That way you don't ruin your latop. Much safer.

That makes sense, though I wish there was some way to change individual USB port voltages at the OS level.

I'm currently doing something similar to that, right now I'm powering the cooling mat through the USB port of my Ipad's AC adapter. It outputs a noticeably higher voltage than the computer's USB ports, though I'd like more control over the exact voltage.

it will need a port like this one to get more power from the usb since it only give 5.0 volts and this powered usb give up12 to 24 volts so you dont have that in a laptop and there is no way it could raise the power on the usb port in a laptop without damaging something .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powered_USB
