So I've read a lot about gpu's not being able to use PCI E 3.0, but I read that the GTX 770 is PCI E 3.0 compatible so does that make the i5 3750k better in that scenario than the i5 2500k? Also it's a z77 motherboard. Also I do plan to overclock the cpu. It'll have a Cooler Master 212 EVO.

So my question is which will be better and more reliable given the newer GPU

edit: or should i go with a haswell.

Solution
Both will work just fine.

I would personally prefer to get newer technology, so I would opt for the new i5-4670k. The i5-3570k will work perfectly just fine, though.

Thanks for the input mochan. So if in fact I did go with the i5-3750k as my CPU then for my motherboard which of the following would I choose if I wanted to overclock the CPU? or would you recommend a completely different motherboard?

Spend the 10 bucks more and get the haswell. Even though haswell is disappointing imo. Broadwell is when I will upgrade. The 3570 consumes less power and is basically identical to haswell.
