Hi All,

I've assembled my new computer:
ASUS P8Z77 Pro Thunderbolt
Corsair LP 32GB Memory
Intel i7 3770k CPU
Seasonic 650W PSU
Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB SSD

And am now trying to install Windows 7 64-bit via a USB drive.

I don't make it very far. I created the windows 7 64-bit USB drive on a 32-bit system and began my installation.

After clicking "Install now", "Setup is starting..." flashes on the screen and then I receive a dialogue box stating:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

With options to Browse, OK, and Cancel.

I can't get past this step.

What I've tried so far:

- Switching the boot order so the USB drive is first
- Installing RAID drivers from both the motherboard DVD (transferred to a USB drive) as well as RAID drivers from the ASUS site (results in "No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media.")
- Switching from SATA to AHCI and back again.
- I don't have a USB 2.0 port so I plugged my bootable usb drive into a USB 2.0 hub connected to my USB3 port.
- Removing the bootable USB drive after the dialogue box appears. (result: The 'Next' button is greyed out and I cannot select it)
- Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) RAID Driver f6flpy-x64.zip (source) gives me BSOD in AHCI mode and "No new devices..." in SATA mode in BIOS
- Updated ASUS BIOS from 0406 x64 build date 06/06/2012 to 2003 x64 build date 05/09/2013

What else can I try, please?

Thanks.

Yes, I did that already... I created a bootable USB drive containing Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. The trouble I'm having is with the installation and specifically the error message:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

Thanks.

I've done this as well without success. Please see the first post for all the things I've already tried.

Thanks for the help, Scout.

I'm using an older case that used to have usb 2.0 connectors in the front but they don't work anymore so I've just tried leaving the usb drive in the usb2 hub through restart but am still getting the same error message!

Thanks.

I didn't try connecting them to the motherboard because they weren't working on the last motherboard I had. Someone put something sticky into it so I don't trust the front usb ports on my case anymore.

It is the old... and the new. I didn't get a new case and the front usb ports are still sticky.

Anyway, I gave up trying to create a bootable usb, bought a DVD drive, and used a DVD to install windows 7 64-bit. I'm disappointed I wasn't able to figure out what the problem was but oh well... on to other things! Thanks for your effort scout!
