CPU overheating on crysis 3

Hey guy's I need some advice. I'm posting this in the overclocking forum because I think it will require a little expertise. I just upgraded to a radeon HD7950 and I've been enjoying some terrific graphics on a few of the latest games. My problem is my other hardware is shit. I'm running an AM3 mobo so I can't upgrade anything until I can afford to upgrade everything since I have a compatibility gap on the whole package. It's going to take some time to raise funds. In the meantime my CPU is overheating and setting off my alarm at 72c. I've gone back to stock bios settings and removed the side case and it's still only buying me about 20 min of playtime before the alarm starts. I'll be getting a new CPU cooler as soon as I can, but in the meantime what can I do to lower my temps? I overclocked my GPU hoping to take a little more load off the CPU but on Crysis 3 it's still easily pegging my load at 100% of CPU. I've only got a pathetic 2.5ghz, but except for the overheating it's been running on max settings without a hiccup. Where and what do I start turning down to get myself a couple degrees more breathing room, while compromising my graphics the least? Should it even be overheating at stock settings? Even if I can just shut off the alarm and see how hot it really get's. Everything is AMD, everything is unlocked. I only have 400 mhz single channel 4g memory if that can make a difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Solution
you dont have any other intake fan for fresh air in the case, reduce the game settings to mid llevel so you system will need less power to run so lees heat on the parts .

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a rear 120mm exhausting, top mount PSU with 160?mm exhausting. Cpu cooler fan sits parallel to the mobo blowing into the heatsink, and has a side case fan that feeds it fresh air. GPU has rear vent but also blows into case quite a bit when on highest fan speed. That's why I took of the side panel and propped it up a few inches away with the fan still blowing into the case. didn't do anything for temps. GPU is running at about 55 fully loaded so not putting out excessive heat and the GPU fans only about 60%, so I don't think it's an airflow issue. I won't be able to get a new heatsink for a couple months. I'm looking into maybe lowering cpu voltage if possible, not sure if it would help enough and stay stable. Or figuring out where I can turn off the alarm. I don't know what if any graphics settings would be cpu intensive, I think Crysis just has a lot of physics which I believe is handled in the cpu, at least on this hardware.
