GPU overheating/failure after 1 year use

Hi everyone, I've been running into an issue in the past month or so. I think I've nailed it down to my GPU overheating.

My current setup is as follows:

Asus Z77 Sabertooth
Intel i5 3570k
evga gtx 670 ftw
16GB GSkill Ram
Corsair AX850

I built this system about a year ago. Everything has been running like clockwork on stock settings up until a month ago. Out of nowhere I started getting artifacts/freezing and "video driver crashed and has failed to recover" errors. I looked at the temps on the gpu and they were close to 70 under load. I couldn't run any benchmarks or games for more than 5 minutes before shit would hit the fan. I didn't think the temps were that extreme, but to test it out I installed afterburner and set a fan profile.

After that, things seemed better, temps were staying just above 60 and I could at least run benchmarks without crashing. I didn't get the artifacts/driver failed error. But I still get artifacts/freezing (no driver failed errors at least) after about an hour or so of gaming. When I get the artifacts/freezing the gpu temp is just above 60. I've ran memtest to rule out the ram. Is this a card gone bad or is something else at fault?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Lol. I'm having the exact same problem. No matter what drivers im using games just freeze then the screen goes black with the sound looping. sometimes it comes back on with insane artifacts that move across the screen. It went away 4 months ago then it came back this month. Nvidia is screwing us consumers left right and center. But yeah, its both our cards dying man :( you probably still have warranty on yours! i dont :( Stupid 9600GSO :'( R.I.P Try some games that are not too GPU dependent and it won't freeze. It only happens in GPU heavy...

Damn! That's some scary stuff, although I have tried using older drivers and still had the same issues. I have a bunch of install files for drivers. Here's a list of what I have at hand (and of course have tried):

301.42
304.79
306.97
310.70
310.90
320.14
320.18

I think I'll try some of the older drivers again just to double check. I'm ready to drop a small fortune on a 780 as this is getting really frustrating. But anything I can do in the next few days will hopefully pay off (whether that be fixing the issue or realizing I have to drop a load on a new card).

I'll post back in a bit after I've rolled back drivers and bring up a game.

I have 314.22 installed and did a quick test playing Defiance like I did with all other drivers. It's too early to tell because the servers went down within 15 minutes of me logging in. There is however some hope as with previous drivers I believe I encountered issues sooner. I'll report back once servers are back up.

oks. good luck man. if it happens with 314.22 then we can eliminate driver issues and start looking at something else

Yup, you hit the nail right on the head there man. EXACTLY what I'm experiencing too. I can play Everquest 2 for hours on end and the fan on the card never ramps up. When I play Defiance though, the fan hits max speed within minutes of playing. Game will freeze and if I ctrl alt delete and bring up task manager, I can get back into the game, but it just freezes again within a minute or so. Temp on the card while playing Defiance is only at 60ish which isn't bad at all, so I dunno.

The 300+ drivers effed up the GPU's if you ask me. Temperatures are not high at all its just the GPU dying :(
