Hey all,

I'm trying to get some clarity on a set up. I currently have a set of Turtle Beach XP 7 headsets which are USB. I would like to install a dedicated sound card like the Sound Blaster Z. (The clarity of the headset really accentuates the poor quality of on board sound). The XP 7 runs both voice, sound and power through the USB when connected to a PC, but it can also connect to consoles via an adapter that passes the sound through a toslink.

1). Will I get a benefit for running this type of set up for a PC? Has anyone connected the XP 7 this way or another to a sound card? And will I get a benefit from not running the sound through the onboard and USB vs. sound card and toslink?

It's hard to call these days. You would imagine that the sound card would be the best option but the RealtekĀ® ALC898 8-Channel High Definition Audio ain't no slouch these days. I use the Cooler Master CM Storm Sirus and it has both options also. I also have a Asus DX 7.1 and for the last few months have been just using the usb option happily. Try both I think you can't go wrong either way.
