okay so i am about to finish purchasing all of the parts i need for a build and i just realized that the way my wireless router is set up it would be nearly impossible to have a clean and simple way to connect an ethernet cable to my desktop.

i know that to establish a wireless connection i will need some sort of add-on card but seeing as i have never built a pc before i really don't know what to look for or the proper terminology. i would hate to spend money and time on something that didn't do what i thought it would.

can you recommend me any reliable add-on cards that will enable me to connect wirelessly?

You need a standard wireless adapter.
Tell us what mainboard are you going to buy. Maybe it has wireless adapter already integrated?
Also it's important what slots are available PCI, PCI-E x1?

How far is your router from the PC? How many walls? What wireless standards does it support - 802.11n etc?

You need something like:
