Will a 450w Psu be enough to support the AMD Radeon HD7850. It's not a Corsair.

More about : good power supply

Probably no, if your too embarrased to tell us what this mystery psu is.

I'm never amazed at some of the questions I see on here. You haven't even told us what cpu or other components your powering.

"Is my car gonna be fast"? "It's not a Ferrari".

Wow.

a quality 450w PSU? yes. a non-name brand that comes free with purchasing a thumb stick? nope but it does make an excellent paper weight

The simple answer is no, at least not according to AMD

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/78...

Quote:
500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended7
600W power supply (or greater) with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors recommended for AMD CrossFire™ technology

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_radeon_hd_7850...

Quote:
Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

Radeon HD 7850 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit and 650 Watt if you go with two cards in Crossfire mode.
Radeon HD 7870 - On your average system the cards require you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit as minimum and 700 Watt if you go with two cards in Crossfire mode.

If you are going to overclock the GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina

Even if that generic psu was an actual 450w, you would be really pushing it. Get yourself a good quality 500w like a Antec, Corsair, XFX, FSP, etc.

If it's not at least 80+ bronze certified, don't buy it.

The PC won't be overclocked.

Like I, Jack, Guru3d and AMD said, get a good 500w. It'll run in it's prime efficiency range and it'll last longer.

For a system using a single AMD reference design Radeon HD 7850 graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater system power supply. The power supply should also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 27 Amps or greater and have at least one 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector. Some of the non-reference design Radeon HD 7850 graphics cards require at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most critical factor.

A Seasonic S12II Bronze 380 Watt (SS-380GB) PSU would do the job.

I think it's an FSP group 450 Watt OEM power supply with a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of somewhere between 27-30 Amps.

Hi - ko is correct, itappears to be an FSP unit, and depending on exactly which
atx450 (more than 1) it is, it has 30 or 34a on the +12v rails. Even the lower number
will power you system OK. There are a lot worse OEM's out there than FSP, so
I'd say you are good to go with that unit.

I would apologize, but all I did was try to help the guy who started the thread. Apparently he started cause he didn't like my name? I guess he didn't get the sarcasm?

I simply recommended a 500w psu as did the others on the forum and he started attacking me for that.

Of course he's guessing. Nobody could possibly tell from the information you have given it's a FSP power supply and I highly doubt it.

It's an educated best guess based on the brand (i.e. PC Specialist Ltd., UK) of system that the OP purchased. I know that specific boutique brand uses FSP group PSUs as their base models in their lower range system offerings. It's 80 PLUS certified so by looking at FSP's 80 PLUS certified PSU models you can get a good idea of what the combined +12V continuous current range will be.

Ok guys. I just can't imagine a company paying for high end FSP parts and putting the name Hi-ko on it, makes no sense.

That's like a no-name company buying Ferrari's and putting Kung-pow on them.

Hi again - FSP is like CWT in that they can mfg almost any level of quality a brand
contracts for. It is highly unlikely they used "high end" parts in a
£29 at retail PSU.
