Hi I just got a 2 TB WD Caviar BLACK. As it was getting installed it prompted me chose MBR (Master Boot Record)
or GPT (GUID Partition Table). I chose GPT by mistake and now it does not show up in BIOS (the Motherboard is is a pre-2011 WX58BP) and offcourse Win 7 does not detect it also. What can I do to access it? Can I somehow revert it to good ole MBR? My current configuration is:

Intel i7 920|Intel WX58BP WD 500GB Blue|250 GB Blue WD| 1 TB WD Black
MSI 5750 1GB

PLS HELP!!!!

It not showing up in the BIOS is very strange. Even if it is set at GPT it should be recognized in the BIOS, I would suggest flashing an updated BIOS just to be certain. If that doesn't work, try plugging the drive into a different SATA port and see if it will recognize that.
Once it is recognized, here is how to fix the partition type.
1) open an elevated command prompt (to do so, search for cmd in the start menu or charms menu, right click on it and select "run as administrator.")
2) type "diskpart" without the quotes and hit enter.
3) once it is loaded, type "list disk". It will show you all of the disks that are on your computer. You should see the new 2 TB disk listed here. It will have a number next to it. This number will be x.
4) type "select disk x" without quotes where x is the number from the previous step.
5) type "clean" without quotes. This will clean the drive of all partition information (which will make all data on the drive hard to recover).
6) close cmd. Type windows key + r. In the run box that comes up type "compmgmt.msc" without quotes.
7) In the menu on the left, click on disk management.
8) select the 2 TB disk on the bottom half of the menu, right click on it and hit "new simple volume".
9) go through the steps, and you will be good to go!
Good luck.

Thank you for the superquick reply Xcrossroadsx, but the computer does not recognise it even after I plugged it into different SATA ports (I think I tried three). In fact I was in the middle of upgrading from an older Power supply to a new one when this happened. After I initialized it to GPT, BIOS did not recognise it with the older power supply...and then I tried it with the new power supply, but no luck. Pls help!!!

Do you have access to a different computer? How old is this drive? Are you able to return it? It really should be showing up in the BIOS, the fact that it doesn't makes me think that there is more of an issue with the drive than just GPT.
If you have access to a different computer, I would try plugging it into that one and following the same steps. If you have access to an external enclosure, I would try using that and following the same steps.

Unfortunately I don't have access to another computer or an external enclosure...can the wx58bp be upgraded to UEFI BIOS? can u walk me through the steps of flashing the bios...? my computer works right now without the new drive...do i risk that by flashing the BIOS?
