So I just built a brand new PC a few days ago with a couple friends of mine, and everything about it is great. Stays cool, runs Metro Last Light at max settings, tackles daily processing easily.
Up until around the 2nd day, this PC was super quiet. The only thing you can hear were the case fans on the NZXT Phantom, and that's not a complaint at all.
Here's the problem: on the night of the 2nd day, I was in Windows and the computer just started revving up. Like it would rev up for a couple seconds, then stop, then do it again, then stop for like 10 minutes, and start doing it again. So the next day, booted it up, and still randomly revving up.
My first thought was to feel for any hotness or warmth. This revving was happening when doing absolutely nothing except sitting at the home screen, but I felt nothing but coolness. The exhausted air feels cool, and all parts of the case feel cool.
So then I took off the side panel to truly identify where this revving noise was coming from. Upon inspection, I isolated the noise to coming towards the bottom of the case, the Power Supply. So, I'm not really sure what it is; I know it's not normal because the first day of using the PC, it didn't make a sound. My room is not very hot, probably in the 70s. I also used the RealTemp program to test the temps, and the temps were at like 32, 30, 35, 40.
I emailed and contacted CoolerMaster, however, because it's Saturday, they are not open. Let me know if anyone has any thoughts, as I will probably just RMA this one, or buy a completely different one.
