I have a remote cabin in Michigan. It was recently broken into and the thief's traced my security camera's wiring back to the DVR and made off with the DVR.

I purchased a new DVR unit which has an Ethernet port and I would like to upload the motion triggered camera footage to the cloud once a day.

I am wondering if there is a way to use a dial-up connection to feed the dvr's appetite for Ethernet internet access.

I didn't know if I could use an old computer and modem to connect to the internet then feed the DVR from the old computers Ethernet port?

if all you can get is dialup service then your plan will work. You need to use ICS (internet connection sharing) I will not duplicate the great information that is on microsofts site on setup.

Because of the cost of phone lines I would see if you could get cell based plan. The cost for the lower end ones are about the same but you get much higher data rates than old crappy dialup modems. You will still need a PC to do the ICS. Your other option would be to buy a wireless hotspot device and then put a ethernet to wireless adapter on your DVR so it can connect to the hotspot. This would eliminate the PC need.
